Giraffe and camels

Not really, but I’m all for long weekends. Just got back from glorious Sprucedale, and I just want to wish everyone the best of luck getting back to the daily grind tomorrow. In the meantime, check out this rather lopsided duel between a spider and a damselfly.

Dutch police chased a guy high on coke through this cornfield before arresting him. I bet it was one fun ride while it lasted.

My apologies for disregarding this site, my friends, my hobbies, and my responsibilities outside of work for the last month or so. I’ve been averaging 70+ hour workweeks, and when I’m not working I barely have enough energy to sleep. Anyways, I like this picture and to me this is the essence of what summer should be… from both the enjoying the outdoors perspective as well as the lounging in the water one. Hopefully I’ll be back in less than another month.

More Cuba pics coming soon (hopefully tomorrow). Seeing these guys up close was pretty awesome.

Woke up today to find the streets outside my house filled with tens of thousands of Sikhs celebrating (as I later found out) Khalsa Day. The gorgeous weather, the lack of responsibilities on a Sunday afternoon, the bright colours, and everyone’s infectious enthusiasm and generosity (there was free food and drink everywhere!) made for pretty much a perfect day. There was such a great sense of community, and I felt like I was part of the vibe too, even though I didn’t understand anything that was going on. It was amazing to see everyone out, especially all the volunteers who devoted their time to come out and hand out water and snacks to people, or even to hold garbage bags and clean up after the event.
At some point this summer, make a point of going to a parade. It’ll do your soul good.

Some more pics my friend Colin took after the jump.
The weather has been great in Guelph lately, and on Friday I spent a few hours exploring the Arboretum in a shroom-like state of mind.

A public service announcement from Andy: Most people have probably heard about the invading Asian Longhorn Beetle in North America by now, but not nearly enough of them know what it looks like. Here you go:
