Graphic of the Day: Urban Transport

So it’s not really a graphic, but it fits the same “holy crap” style of visual comparison as the offshore drilling chart.

The amount of space required to transport the same number of passengers by car, bus, or bicycle, courtesy of our friends in Germany (7 years ago), who seem to get it way better than we do:

    Sigh. If cars ever get phased out, kids born after it happens are gonna wonder why all the cities built mostly between 1950-whenever-it-happens are going to wonder why the roads are so damn wide.

    Hmm, I just noticed that the scale in those photos is a little deceptive, in that the ‘car’ photograph is zoomed a bit closer in.

    It’s striking despite that, but you’d think they would’ve been able to take a picture from the same distance…
