Fuck you Jack Layton
September 10th, 2008 by AndyWhat the hell was Jack Layton thinking when he announced his intentions to keep Elizabeth May (leader of the Greens) from participating in the leaders’ debates this current Canadian election cycle? This is the man who claims to be the voice for the little guy in Ottawa, leader of the party that constantly talks as if it supports democracy and equality for Canadians. Incidentally, the NDP also tend to claim to be the party most supportive of environmental stewardship. Why then is the NDP leader seeking to block the Green Party from the democratic process? While admittedly the televised leaders debates no longer carry the meaning they used to, what with the constant politiking now permitted by the internet and 24 hour news networks, the symbolic meaning is still enormous. Real parties are allowed to participate, while fringe parties are kept out. Why then is Mr. Layton refusing to acknowledge the arrival of the Greens on the political stage - especially now that they finally have a member of parliament?

I guess that’s the reason, then. The Greens and the Liberals both agree that climate change is a pressing issue, and that implementing financial incentives for reducing greenhouse gas emissions might work. I thought the NDP was also “committed” to fighting climate change. Maybe they have a slightly different strategy in mind, but shouldn’t they be excited to have an open forum to discuss ways to reduce our environmental impact? Shouldn’t Jack Layton be especially excited about the possibility of having another leader aching to turn the focus of the debate to global warming? No… it seems that Layton is just another bullshit politician, rehashing the same old shit about working together and finding real solutions, while letting his actions show that all he really cares about is preventing the Greens from stealing too many NDP votes. Fuck you Jack Layton, and shame on you.

Wow, straight up. That’s pretty shitty.
I know the Provincial NDP’s are different from the Feds, but out here in BC, the NDP have been prattling on and on with their “Axe the Tax” campaign. The tax they want to end? BC’s new Carbon tax. Once you read their arguments, there is a bit of nuance, and they make a bit of sense (though I still largely disagree with them). But it wasn’t until recently, when I actually went out of my way and found an article about their reasoning that I was able to see that it was anything but bluster and politics.
The carbon tax is far from perfect, but the fact that it has _already_ been implemented (instead of languishing in parliament) is astounding, and is, if nothing else, a huge symbolic victory for advocates of a strong climate change policy. When election time finally does roll around, I’m pretty sure I know who I’ll be voting for. It won’t be the NDP.

And I really agree with your second point, although admittedly I know little of the workings of the BC carbon tax. It’s already gone through all the bureaucratic wrangling, and somehow got passed. Unless it’s truly a HORRIBLE system, the NDP would probably be better off tweaking what’s already there.

If you think that the ndpedophiles will ever lead this country, you have your head up your ass. If you think that greens will ever win, you have inserted into your gay boyfriends ass instead (lesbians included). The smartest thing eastern Canada can do is vote Conservative. I will never submit to socialisism and paganism. I will not submit to global warming and environmental globalist lies either. If I did , it would be with force. I would rather die on my feet than on my knees.
